Personal data
Personal data are information relating to an identified or identifiable natural person (such as name, postal address or email address). In general, we only process our users’ personal data to the extent necessary to provide a functioning website and our services. Art. 6(1)(1)(f) and (b) GDPR form the legal basis for this. Our users’ personal data are regularly processed beyond this context with their express consent. Art. 6(1)(1)(a) GDPR forms the legal basis for this. In exceptional cases, we also process data if this is permitted by law, e.g. based on Art. 6(1)(1)(c), (d), (e) or (f) GDPR.

Duration of storage/erasure
Personal data are erased once the purpose for which they have been stored ceases to exist. Whilst legal retention periods, as set out in tax and commercial law for example, prevent erasure of your personal data, we restrict processing of your data for this period of time. Once these statutory retention periods expire, the data are erased.

Direct collection of data and transfer to third parties
We generally collect personal data directly from you as the data subject, with you providing such information to us yourself. If we process data that have not been collected from you personally, we inform you of that fact. We do not transfer data to third parties unless you have expressly consented to this. In exceptional cases, we may engage service providers that may also come in contact with personal data. If this is the case, we ensure that these data processors are properly selected and that they undertake to comply with data protection laws pursuant to Art. 28 GDPR. If we commission service providers for certain functions on our website or wish to use your data for advertising purposes, we inform you below in detail of the respective processes.

Provision of our services in accordance with our Articles of Association and business activities
If we collect and process data to provide services in accordance with our Articles of Association and/or business activities, Art. 6(1)(1)(b) GDPR forms the legal basis for this processing. We process data from members, interested parties, participants, customers, visitors, applicants and partners within the context of our duties and contractual obligations under our Articles of Association and/or in accordance with our business activities. Usually, this data processing relates to the following categories:

  • Personal and master data (e.g. name, address, date of birth),
  • Contact data (e.g. telephone number and email address),
  • Contract data (e.g. date and content of concluded contracts) and
  • Payment data (e.g. bank details), if these are required for the contractual relationship.

For data processing that goes beyond fulfilling duties in accordance with our Articles of Association and/or business activities or the initiation and implementation of contracts, we refer to the protection of legitimate interests pursuant to Art. 6(1)(1)(f) GDPR, provided that we have not obtained your express consent for this purpose (Art. 6(1)(1)(a) GDPR). In particular, we will ask for such consent if the data processing relates to special categories of personal data (e.g. health data). If the consent should be given in relation to a child’s data, such consent will be obtained from their legal guardian. You may revoke any consent given to the processing of your data at any time with future effect.

Your rights as a data subject
You have the following rights with regard to personal data concerning you:

  • The right to access, free of charge, your stored data,
  • The right to rectification,
  • The right to erasure,
  • The right to restriction of processing,
  • The right to data portability.

You have the right to object, on grounds relating to your particular situation, at any time to processing of personal data concerning you. Such a right to object relates to instances of data processing pursuant to Art. 6(1)(1)(e) and (f) GDPR. You may also object at any time to profiling as well as data processing for direct marketing.

You are also entitled to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority if you feel the processing of your personal data breaches the General Data Protection Regulation.

If processing is based on your consent, you may revoke this at any time with future effect.

If you wish to enforce your rights or have any questions, please contact the Data Protection Officer of the Internationaler Bund e. V. at the following address: datenschutz@ib.de.

No automated decision-making
There is no automated decision-making, including profiling, pursuant to Art. 22(1) and (4) GDPR.

Making contact
If you contact us via email or a contact form, we store the data you provide (your email address and perhaps your name and telephone number) so that we can respond to your questions. We erase the data thus obtained once their storage is no longer necessary or restrict their processing if there is a legal requirement to retain the data. Technical and organisational measures are used to protect your personal data during collection, storage and processing so that they are not accessible to third parties. However, please note that security vulnerabilities may arise when transmitting data over the Internet (e.g. email communication). That is why we cannot ensure complete data security when communicating via email. Therefore, we recommend that you send us any information with high confidentiality requirements by post.

SSL encryption
This website uses SSL encryption for security reasons and to protect the transfer of confidential content, such as requests which you send to us as the website operator. You can recognise an encrypted connection in your browser’s address line when it changes from “http://” to “https://” and the lock icon is displayed there. If SSL encryption is enabled, the data you transmit to us cannot be read by third parties.

Collection of personal data when you visit our website If you use our website for purely informational purposes – in other words, if you do not register or otherwise provide information to us – we only collect the personal data sent by your browser to our server. When you visit our website, we collect the following data which we require for technical reasons in order to display our website to you and to ensure its stability and security (Art. 6(1)(1)(f) GDPR forms the legal basis).

  • IP address
  • Date and time of the request
  • Time zone difference from Greenwich Mean Time (GMT)
  • Content of the request (specific page)
  • Access status/HTTP status code
  • Data volume transferred in each case
  • Website from which the request has come
  • Browser
  • Operating system and its interface
  • Browser software language and version.

We describe below how we collect information when you visit our website and how this is used.

Cookies
In addition to the aforementioned data, cookies are stored on your computer when you use our website. Cookies are small text files that are stored on your hard drive, associated with the browser you have used, and send certain information to the entity that sets the cookie (us, in this instance). Cookies cannot run programs or deliver viruses to your computer. They help to make the website more user-friendly and effective overall.

This website uses transient and persistent cookies, with their scope and function explained below:

Transient cookies are automatically deleted when you close your browser. These include session cookies in particular. These store what is known as a session ID, which is used to assign various requests from your browser to the one session. This allows your computer to be remembered when you return to our website. Session cookies are deleted when you log out or close the browser.

Persistent cookies are automatically deleted after a predetermined duration, which may differ from cookie to cookie. You can delete the cookies in your browser security settings at any time.

You may set up your browser as you wish and e.g. refuse to accept third-party cookies or all cookies. Please be aware that in that case you may not then be able to use all features of this site.

Our cookies are also used for remarketing within the context of services provided by Google Ireland Limited, Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland, hereinafter “Google”). Through these, targeted ads based on your defined interests as per your user behaviour are delivered to you again on sites in the Google Partner network.

You have the right to object, on grounds relating to your personal situation, at any time to this processing of personal data concerning you based on Art. 6(1)(1)(f) GDPR. To disable Google’s use of cookies for this purpose, please visit https://www.google.de/settings/ads. Alternatively, you can disable the use of cookies from third-party providers by visiting the Network Advertising Initiative’s opt-out page. Please note that Google has its own privacy policy that is independent of ours. Before using our website, please check the Google Privacy Policy.

Google Analytics
This website uses Google Analytics, a web analytics service provided by Google Inc. (“Google”). We use Google Analytics so that we can analyse use of our website and regularly improve it. The statistics obtained help us to improve our site and make it more interesting for users. For the exceptional cases in which personal data are transferred to the USA, Google has signed up to the EU/US Privacy Shield (see https://www.privacyshield.gov/EU-US-Framework). Art. 6(1)(1)(f) GDPR forms the legal basis for the use of Google Analytics.

Information generated by the cookie about the use of this website (including your IP address) is transmitted to and stored on a Google server in the USA. Due to the use of the anonymize_IP plug-in, Google truncates IP addresses immediately after storage in the USA. Google uses this information to analyse your usage of the website, to compile reports on the website activities for the website operator and to render further services connected with the usage of the website and of the Internet. Google may also share this information with third parties where required to do so by law or where third parties process these data on Google’s behalf. Third-party providers, including Google, place ads on Internet websites and use stored cookies to place ads based on users’ prior visits to this website. Google does not associate your IP address with other Google data.

You have the right to object, on grounds relating to your particular situation, at any time to this processing of personal data concerning you. You can prevent cookies being installed by adjusting your browser software appropriately; however, please note that you may not then have full use of all of the features of this website. You can download a browser add-on from Google here (https://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout?hl=de). This then sets an opt-out cookie which prevents future collection of your data when you visit this website. You may have to follow further instructions there to completely prevent cookies from being set or used for the aforementioned purposes.

This website also uses Google Analytics for cross-device analysis of visitor traffic via the User ID feature (“Universal Analytics”). You can disable cross-device analysis of your usage under “My data”, “Personal data” in your customer account.

This website also uses the Google Analytics demographic features. They can be used to create reports on the age, gender and interests of website visitors. These data come from targeted Google advertising based on interests and the visitor data of third-party providers. These data cannot be attributed to a specific person. You may disable these features at any time via the ad settings in your Google account.

IP anonymisation
We use the IP anonymisation activation feature on this website. Accordingly, your IP address is first truncated by Google within European Union member states and other states party to the Agreement on the European Economic Area. Your full IP address is only transmitted to a Google server in the USA and truncated there in exceptional cases. On behalf of the operator of this website, Google uses this information to analyse your usage of the website, to compile reports on the website activities and to render further services to the website operator connected with the usage of the website and of the Internet. The IP address transmitted by your browser in relation to Google Analytics is not merged with other Google data.

Google reCAPTCHA
We use Google reCAPTCHA (hereinafter “reCAPTCHA”) on our websites. This service is provided by Google Ireland Limited, Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland (“Google”). reCAPTCHA is used to check whether the data entered on our website (such as on a contact form) has been entered by a human or by an automated program. To do this, reCAPTCHA analyses the behaviour of the website visitor based on various characteristics. This analysis starts automatically as soon as the website visitor enters the website. For the analysis, reCAPTCHA evaluates various information (e.g. IP address, how long the visitor has been on the website or mouse movements made by the user). The data collected during the analysis are forwarded to Google.

The reCAPTCHA analysis takes place completely in the background. Website visitors are not advised that such analysis is taking place. Art. 6(1)(1)(f) GDPR forms the legal basis for the data processing. The website operator has a legitimate interest in protecting its sites from abusive automated crawling and spam.

For further information on Google reCAPTCHA and the Google Privacy Policy, please use the following links: https://www.google.com/intl/de/policies/privacy/ and https://www.google.com/recaptcha/intro/android.html.

Use of Google Maps
We use the function for embedding Google Maps provided by Google Ireland Limited (Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland; “Google”) on our website. Art. 6(1)(1)(f) GDPR forms the legal basis for the processing. The function enables the visual representation of geographical information and interactive maps and is used to optimise our website, which is a legitimate interest of ours. When pages with Google Maps embedded are visited, Google also collects, processes and uses data of visitors to these pages. For further information on how Google collects and uses the data, please check the Google Privacy Policy at https://www.google.com/privacypolicy.html. You can also change your settings in the data protection centre there so that you can manage and protect your data processed by Google. Your data may also be transferred to the USA for this. An adequacy decision has been adopted by the European Commission for data transfers to the USA.

You have the right to object, on grounds relating to your particular situation, at any time to this processing of personal data concerning you. You will have to disable JavaScript in your browser for this. However, please note that you may not then have full use of all of the features of this website, such as the interactive maps.

YouTube
Our website uses plug-ins of the YouTube site operated by Google. The operator of the site is Google Ireland Ltd. (Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland). If you visit one of our pages featuring a YouTube plug-in, a connection is established to the YouTube servers. The YouTube server is then given information on the pages of our website visited by you. If you are logged into your YouTube account, YouTube is able to directly link your surfing with your personal profile. You can prevent this by logging out of your YouTube account. More information on how user data are handled can be found in the YouTube Privacy Policy: https://www.google.de/intl/de/policies/privacy.

Amendments to this Privacy Policy
Technological developments and changes in our business operations mean that we are required to amend our Privacy Policy from time to time. We reserve the right to make changes to this policy and will provide information on the changes here.
